About Minecraft
Minecraft is an open-world sandbox game developed by Mojang Studios, fully released in 2011 and now owned by Microsoft. Everything in it is made of blocks: you dig, chop, smelt and craft, then build anything you can imagine, from your first wooden shelter to entire cities powered by redstone circuits.
Every world is randomly generated and practically infinite, with forests, deserts, snowy peaks, oceans, deep caves and two other dimensions, the Nether and the End. Nothing is scripted: players set their own goals, from surviving the first night, taming animals and exploring ancient temples to defeating the Ender Dragon or simply building something beautiful with friends.
That freedom is why the game appeals to children and adults alike and why so many schools use it to teach coding, maths and teamwork.
Minecraft APK is the common name for the Android build of the game (formerly Minecraft Pocket Edition, now Bedrock Edition). The only legitimate Minecraft APK download sources are Google Play and the Amazon Appstore; any “modded”, “free” or “unlocked” APK found elsewhere is unofficial and often carries malware. This page points only to legitimate sources – see the safe Minecraft APK install guide below.
Safe download
Mojang publishes Minecraft only through each platform’s official store. How we keep your Minecraft APK download safe:
Minecraft APK download by device
The list below collects every legitimate Minecraft APK download and store link for each platform, so you never have to hunt around. Each link opens the publisher’s own store page.
Minecraft APK download: how to install safely
The one rule to remember: only download Minecraft from the app store of the platform you are using. That guarantees the latest version, automatic updates, safe saved worlds and a Microsoft account sign-in for cross-play.
On Android (Minecraft APK)
- Tap Install on Google Play at the top of this page, or open Google Play and search for “Minecraft” by Mojang.
- Check that the developer shown is Mojang before buying. Pay once with a card, wallet or Google Play gift card.
- Open the game and sign in with a free Microsoft account to keep skins, friends and Realms.
- Go to Settings → Profile to change the language if the game does not pick up your device language.
On iPhone / iPad
- Open the App Store, search for “Minecraft” or use the link in the download section.
- Buy and download; the app is shared across every device on your Apple account.
On Windows 10 / 11
- Download the Minecraft Launcher from minecraft.net or the Microsoft Store.
- Sign in with Microsoft and pick Java Edition or Bedrock Edition – one purchase covers both. Included in PC Game Pass.
On consoles
- Open the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store on Xbox or the Nintendo eShop and search for “Minecraft”.
- Buy and install, then sign in with Microsoft to cross-play with phones and PCs. Console players never need a Minecraft APK download – the store handles everything.

What’s new
The Bedrock 26.4x line keeps expanding the world with new mobs, blocks and mechanics while improving performance on mobile devices. Since 2026 Mojang uses year-based version numbers and ships every update simultaneously on Android, iOS, Windows and consoles, so installing from an official store is all it takes to stay current. Detailed notes for each build are published on Mojang’s changelog site.
Minecraft FAQ
No. Minecraft is a one-time paid game on Google Play, the App Store, the Microsoft Store and consoles. Any “free Minecraft APK” online is not an official Mojang release. A free trial is available for Android, Windows and some consoles on the minecraft.net download page.
They are the same game. Minecraft Pocket Edition (PE) was the old name of the mobile version; in 2017 Mojang merged mobile, Windows 10 and console builds into Bedrock Edition. “Minecraft APK” simply refers to the Android installer of Bedrock Edition.
Since 2026 Mojang uses year-based version numbers; the current Bedrock release is in the 26.4x line and ships simultaneously on every platform. Install from an official store to receive updates automatically; the detailed version number is kept in the App information section.
Minecraft requires Android 8.0 or later, at least 2 GB of RAM (4 GB recommended) and about 1 GB of free storage. Most mid-range phones from 2019 onwards run it smoothly at default settings.
Yes. Every device running Bedrock Edition (Android, iOS, Windows, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch) can play together through a free Microsoft account. Only Java Edition on PC does not cross-play with Bedrock.
No. Licences are tied to each store: Google Play, the App Store, the Microsoft Store and each console are separate. On Windows, buying Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition once gives you both versions.
It is not recommended. Mojang does not publish APKs outside Google Play and the Amazon Appstore. Files from unknown sources may contain malware, steal your Microsoft account or corrupt saved worlds, and they violate the terms of use.
Minecraft is rated PEGI 7 and ESRB Everyone 10+, with no blood and only cartoon-style combat. Parents can disable chat, restrict invites and block in-app purchases through Microsoft family settings.
